10 Kitchen Design tips to get your kitchen cooking in no time!
Streamline surfaces
Think smooth and seamless. Cupboards should reach the ceiling or run flush with a bulkhead, doing away with dust catching wasted space. Benchtops should be streamlined with few visible joins. Go for under-bench sinks that sit below the benchtop so you can't see the edges.
Integrate appliances
In a quest for open-plan bliss, appliances, including coffee machines, microwaves, and steam ovens should be integrated for that streamlined look. Disguise your dishwasher with an integrated front panel.
Flaunt benchtops
For a modern benchtop, choose natural textures like granite and quartz engineered stone. Design-wise, it's all about a sleek look. On your island bar, waterfall ends both protect and provide a stylish finish to your benchtop.
Get a smart splash back
Want to show off some flair with colour or texture? As the design focus of modern kitchens, the splash back is the best place to do it. Painted glass splash backs can be done in any colour imaginable. Choose the same material as your benchtop for a seamless look.
Opt for an island
A well-designed island bench is essential for entertaining. Fit with a sink, cooktop or chopping boards, so that you can face towards family and guests. A benchtop overhang also makes it comfortable for people to sit. Or if you prefer to keep mess out of sight, a pod with a raised bench will hide the mess.
Clue up on colour
Create calm by choosing neutral colours. All-white, cream, and earthy colours are foolproof design classics. Dark tones make an impact, however they can overwhelm small spaces. Dark Tones are best used on the bottom row of cabinetry. Keep bursts of colour to feature spots, like splash back, or the front panel of island benches.
Choose the right layout
No matter what your style, budget or space, every kitchen layout should be designed around what experts call the 'Golden Triangle'. This involves placing the main work areas - fridge, sink and oven/cooktop - close to each other, positioned at three sides of a triangle. Regardless of kitchen size, these activity zones should be no more than three metres apart, so you can move easily between them.
Switch to clever lighting
Light up your kitchen with pendants or LED’s. Lighting in glazed cabinets can create a striking appearance. Lighting can also be displayed under benchtop overhang, which add style, elegance, and a warm ambience to your kitchen island. Coloured lights can also be used for extra effect.
Look, no handles
Large stainless steel handles can be used as a striking effect. Choose a seamless look with lip handles routed into the top or the side of the doors or drawers. Small chrome handles or knobs can also be used to achieve your desired look. If “no handles” are your thing, Blum Touch server drivers on your drawers are what you need.
Maximise storage
Drawers maximise storage space, making it easy to access your kitchen's darkest corners. One way to achieve this is by installing corner drawers. Shallow, extra-wide varieties are great for storing cutlery and utensils. Pull out metal pantries or drawers can create easy access in your kitchen.
